　　(1) demand for (sth/sb) 需求，需要

　　There’s an increased demand for organic produce in the market these days.

　　(2) in (great) demand(非常)需要

　　People with ability are in great demand in big companies and enterprises.

　　大型公司和企業對人才的需求量大。

　　(3) 注意：demand作為可數名詞時意為“要求”，作為不可數名詞時意為“需求，需求量”。例如：

　　Their demand has been turned down.

　　他們的要求遭到了拒絕。

　　We must increase our output to meet the demand.

　　我們必須提高產量滿足需求。

　　一、demand作動詞用

　　1. demand + 名詞或代詞

　　demand后接名詞或代詞時，其主語可以是人也可以是事(物)。一般來說，當人作主語時，表示主觀要求;而事(物)作主語時則表示客觀需要。例如：

　　The foreign customer demanded an apology from the saleswoman in the supermarket.

　　這位外國顧客要求超市女售貨員向其道歉。(主觀要求)

　　As is known, fishing is a job that demands great patience.

　　眾所周知，釣魚是一項需要耐性的工作。(客觀需要)

　　2. demand + 動詞不定式

　　demand后接動詞不定式時，主語通常是人而不是物;動詞不定式可根據需要用主動或被動形式。例如：

　　She demanded to be told everything about it.

　　她要求知道事情的整個經過。

　　3. demand sth. from / of sb.

　　Yesterday evening, the couple came to my house and demanded help from / of me.

　　昨天晚上，夫婦倆來到我家要求我幫忙。

　　4. demand +從句

　　demand后接賓語從句時，從句謂語一般要用虛擬語氣，即"should + 動詞原形";其被動語態為 "should + be +動詞過去分詞\",其中should可以省略。例如：

　　The manager demanded that the workers (should) work extra hours to complete the task ahead of time.

　　經理要求工人加班，以提前完成任務。

　　All the settlers nearby demanded that the nightclub (should) be moved away as soon as possible. 附近所有居民都要求那家夜總會盡早搬走。

　　二、demand作名詞用

　　demand用作名詞時既可用作可數名詞，也可用作不可數名詞。常見用法有：

　　1. 表示"要求;要求的事物"。例如：

　　The workers\' demands for higher pay and better working condition were turned down.

　　工人們加薪和改善工作條件的要求遭到拒絕。

　　There have been demands for the prime minister to resign.

　　已有許多人要求首相辭職。

　　2. 表示社會對于人才、貨物的需要。例如：

　　A few years ago, there was high demand for typists.
